Lupita Nyong'o Speech on Black Beauty Essence Black Women #BringBackOurGirls
These are the fantastic words of wisdom given to Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o by her mother when Lupita was a young girl, struggling with her self-esteem in a world in which beauty is often defined in the media by the color of one’s skin. Just a couple of things to note, in case you aren’t sure of what is being referred to in her speech:
When the young girl in the opening letter refers to Whitenicious cream, she is referring to a skin lightening cream used to lighten the tone of one’s skin.
Near the end of her speech, when Lupita refers to Patsey, she is referring to the Oscar winning role she played in the movie 12 Years a Slave.
